National Development Director - USA Field Hockey (Colorado Springs, CO)

 Summary

USA Field Hockey is looking for an innovative and dynamic strategic thinker who will be tasked with growing the sport of field hockey in the United States. The National Development Director is responsible for meeting developmental goals by working in partnership with the department leaders of USA Field Hockey and inspiring, leading, managing and training the Regional Development Managers to meet their program and service goals. This role is a crucial element of the USA Field Hockey Strategic Plan which includes increased participation in playing, coaching and umpiring, as well as, international success. The National Development Director reports to USA Field Hockey’s Executive Director.

Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Create strategic goals and timelines for the development of the sport in the United States

·         Work with the USA Field Hockey executive team, Board of Directors and membership to evolve development strategy

·         Ensure that sport development efforts remain consistent and contemporary with the USA Field Hockey Strategic Plan

·         Develop and evolve programs and services to best achieve development strategy

·         Represent USA Field Hockey's development programs, champion the initiatives, be the organizational spokesperson for the developmental programming

·         Manage the full time Regional Development Managers (RDMs) who are tasked with implementing development strategies on the regional level

·         Recruit and provide ongoing training to the RDMs

·         Set appropriate targets by development activity for each region

·         Monitor RDM performance

·         Direct RDM activities to prioritize focus to best achieve overall development goals

·         Ensure that annual targets for Sport Development activities are met nationally and in each region, including: Futures Program, Fundamental Field Hockey, You Go Girl, Boys Development, Adult Development, Umpire Recruitment and Training, Coach Education and Certification, Sanctioned Events, Camps, Club Development

·         Ensure all programs and services are consistent with USA Field Hockey policies and protocols, including Safe Sport

·         Prepare budget and forecasts for Sport Development activities

·         Monitor, and where appropriate, translate best practices from other sports and hockey development in other countries

·         Provide reports, as required, to Executive Director

Minimum Qualifications Required

Education

·         Bachelor’s degree is required

Experience

·         Minimum 8 years’ experience in the sports industry field

·         Experience in sport development and coaching. Field hockey is preferred, but not required

·         Experience executing development, growth and/or marketing strategies

·         Demonstrated experience in managing a team of staff to achieve individual and departmental milestones

·         Demonstrated experience in managing a departmental budget

Skills

·         Strategic thinker, self-starter, motivator, collaborative leader

·         Have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal, including public speaking and presentations

·         Ability to multi-task, handle frequent interruptions and competing priorities, be good at time management and able to meet deadlines

·         Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs

·         This position is based out of the USA Field Hockey National Office in Colorado Springs, Colorado
