Summer Intern-Membership, Events and Programs - U. S. Masters Swimming, Inc. (Sarasota, FL)

U.S. Masters Swimming encourages adults to enjoy the health, fitness, and social benefits of swimming by providing more than 2,000 adult swimming programs and events across the country, including open water and pool competitions. USMS is a nonprofit organization that supports nearly 70,000 members range in age from 18 to 99 and includes swimmers of all ability levels, trains and certifies coaches and provides online workouts, a bimonthly member magazine, monthly eNewsletters, and technique articles and videos at usms.org.

POSITION SUMMARY:  The USMS Summer Intern (full time paid position from May/June to August) - Membership, Events and Programs will gain a wide range of experience in the USMS Operations Department which provides training, support and service for USMS core business functions.  Responsibilities will vary based on need but will include front line customer service, data entry and analytics, logistical support for Coach, Clinic and Adult-Learn-to-Swim Certification courses, coordination of USMS event best practices and operational planning for new program initiatives.  This position will report to the Sr. Director of Membership Services and Acquisition but will have assignments from all members of the Operations Department including the Chief Operating Officer.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the Operations Department (which consists of Membership, Club and Coach Services, Adult-Learn-to-Swim and Events) with day-to-day activities.
  • Help with research on membership trends and development of new initiatives.
  • Support for Operations Department’s various logistical needs.
  • Coordinate updates to Places-to-Swim database and other data maintenance projects.
  • Facilitate the distribution of USMS performance recognition awards, certification course materials and Swimming Saves Lives Foundation mailings.
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of organizational reporting and data analysis projects.
  • Provide communication assistance for new College Club Swimming clubs and members.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience in events, operations or athletic department preferred.  
  • Desire to gain experience with a National Governing Body or in the fitness industry.
  • Swimming experience or knowledge a plus.   
  • Ability to work on multiple projects congruently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of all corporate, personnel and research matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.  The ability to interact effectively and in a professional, diplomatic, and mature manner with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated problem solving and critical thinking skills.
