The USA Volleyball High Performance Department is seeking a 2014 Summer Intern who will assist HP in preparation, logistics and implementation for HP Summer Camps (including local A2 program in CO Springs), High Performance Championships and National Teams

Position start date coincides with High Performance entering intense planning/ preparation mode for summer HP season.  Initial tasks focus on athlete registrations, athlete and coach communications, camp program logistics and assistance preparing for National Team programs and/or High Performance Championships.  This phase quickly moves into travel coordination and final program information to athletes, families and coaches.  These tasks are essential to the heart of what High Performance provides for aspiring young volleyball players.  

 

Value to Intern

Interns quickly are immersed in a full range of tasks that surround running a successful, fast-paced youth sports program.  The crowning event for this internship will be the intern’s participation in the local, Colorado Springs Girls’ and Boys’ High Performance A2 Programs.  Intern will gain the experience of preparing, supporting and helping to run high-level events from planning to full implementation.  Internship will extend beyond the completion of these summer programs to include program completions, evaluations, inventory, etc.

 

General Job Description

The Summer Intern, Indoor HP, is a paid position, running approximately May 15th to August 15th.  Position will assist with program preparation and logistics support for HP Summer Camps, HP Championships and USA HP National Teams.  Intern will be involved with directly running local Colorado Springs High Performance A2 Programs.  Intern reports to Director, Indoor HP.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with putting together detailed logistics information for HP Summer Programs.

  • Provide updates to, and answer questions from, registered HP Programs.

  • Assist assembling and shipping gear to Summer HP Programs.

  • Assist in venue setup, registration and operation of Girls’/Boys’ A2 Programs, CO Springs.

  • Assist with camp, HP Championships and National Team paperwork preparation, data entry, evaluation processing and related tasks.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Excellent work ethic; succeeds in a fast-paced environment.

  • Completed or working toward four-year college degree in sports admin or related field.

  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications with emphasis on MS Excel.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to detail

  • Experience and/or ambition in area of sports or event management

  • Knowledge of volleyball a plus. 

 

Position Pay:

Pay for this position will be $8.00 per hour, up to 40 hours per week. 

 

Projected Dates:  May 15th through August 15th.

Job Description

The USA Volleyball Women’s National Team is looking for volunteer coaches for both the Summer and Winter Training Blocks. Volunteer coaches have the opportunity to work closely with the top female athletes in the world, as well as with the Women’s National Team staff, including Head Coach Karch Kiraly. Part of the USA Women’s National Team mission is to push the boundaries of the sport, so volunteer coaches often have the opportunity to assist with new learning and teaching methods, new studies to gain insight into the game, and other tasks and projects that will help our USA players be the best in the world.  As such, a familiarity with and willingness to learn technology and its uses are essential for a volunteer coach.

 

The Winter Training Block began Monday, January 27 and runs through Friday, March 21. Volunteers are mostly requested for the final four weeks of the block.

 

The Summer Training Block begins the first week of May and runs through mid-September. For both the Winter and Summer Training Block, practice sessions are 8:30-11:30am, with office hours for the staff (video analysis, scouting, etc) running until about 6:00pm. Depending on the level of involvement and responsibilities, volunteers may be needed for some or all of this time.  Prospective volunteers should plan for at least a two week commitment, in order to maximize their learning opportunities.

 

Volunteers must provide their own housing and transportation to and from the American Sports Center in Anaheim, California where the National Team trains. However, there are also opportunities to be involved with video scouting and study from a distance, for coaches who are not able to spend significant time in Anaheim.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with all aspects of practice sessions

  • Helping to set up practice courts and facilitate practice sessions

  • Assisting with practice video, replay technologies, etc.

  • Compiling scouting information, helping organize scouting reports

  • Video study: compiling video montages for USA players

  • Video study: charting and studying international matches

  • Statistical analysis

  • Assisting with USA Red-Blue exhibition matches, including match setup, fan experience, etc.

Qualifications

  • Volleyball coaching and/or playing experience (duties assigned in proportion to experience)

  • Experience with or willingness to learn various technology-related applications including Excel, DataVolley, Dartfish, and Kinovea.

  • Must become a USA Volleyball member and successfully pass a USA Volleyball background screening

  • USA Volleyball IMPACT certified or completion of IMPACT certification by end of two week commitment.

  • Most importantly, a great attitude, an open mind, and willingness to learn.

USA Volleyball (USAV) is the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sports of volleyball and beach volleyball in the United States and is recognized by the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).
