Communications: Communications Department Management
Communications Manager - USA Cycling (Colorado Springs, CO)

USA Cycling's mission is to develop the sport of cycling in the United States at all levels and to achieve sustained international racing success while fostering a shared commitment to safety, integrity and the joy of cycling. We are looking for skilled, motivated and passionate professional to join our team. 

The Communications Manager oversees initiatives in support of our overall marketing and communications strategy. The Communications Manager is responsible for effective communication with USA Cycling constituents with the goal of growing our brand and increase awareness of the sport of cycling in America. 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Crafts communications strategy and oversees social media for assigned Business Units and projects
  • Creates or sources original content including written features, press releases and newsletters
  • Responsible for maintaining assigned content on USACycling.org
  • Manages and maintains earned and owned media measurement tools
  • Supports external media relations including: creates and distributes information to endemic, Olympic and mainstream sports media; fulfills media requests for interviews, photos, statistics and related information; maintains USA Cycling media, agency and influencer distribution lists; manages media operations on-site at major national cycling events
  • Supports activation management for key USA Cycling partners
  • Maintains department’s administrative needs including vendor payment processing and budget tracking

Qualifications:

  • Advanced verbal and written communication and editing skills
  • Experience managing website content and proficiency with content management systems (WordPress)
  • Skilled with social media; familiar with best practices (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Strava, Twitter, YouTube)
  • Familiarity with email marketing tools and best practices
  • Capacity to maintain multiple concurrent projects in a fast, fluid environment
  • Ability to maintain positive and professional attitude especially in high-stress situations
  • Power to build positive, professional relationships with internal and external customers and constituents
  • Capability to manage external communications contractors (photographers, writers, etc.)
  • Industry knowledge of cycling is preferred

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, communication, marketing or related field required.

 Experience

  • Three to five years of experience in sports communications, journalism or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and supervising the creation of written and/or digital content.
  • Proven success at crafting and distributing integrated content across web, social media and email.

Software Utilized

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) content tools (Adobe Photoshop, WordPress, AP StyleGuard, etc.); CRM (MailChimp); and analytics tools (IQ Media, Google Analytics, etc.)

Travel

  • Extensive travel, including weekends, required.

Sales & Marketing: Marketing
Manager of Membership Products and Marketing - USA Cycling (Colorado Springs, CO)

General Purpose

As the Manager of Membership Products and Marketing for USA Cycling, you are responsible for supporting the development and marketing of USA Cycling’s membership products. Products will include: Ride and Race Memberships, one-day licenses, merchandise and other a la carte products.  You will provide tactical planning, execution of product development, marketing, and drive member retention efforts.  You will closely monitor performance of products and marketing.  Your role within the organization supports the relationships with our marketing agency and merchandise partners.  You will act as the “voice of the valued customer” in meetings with marketing and membership teams, while developing new communications channels with members (e.g. newsletters, ambassador / street team).

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Supports efforts to market and refine all membership products targeted at racers and enthusiasts, including Race, Podium/Podium+, Ride, Ride+, one-day licenses, and merchandise, across all cycling disciplines and formats.

  • Creates and executes marketing and content approaches for both acquisition and retention of customers across our product line.

  • Partners with all necessary advertising agencies and freelancers to develop and deploy content, marketing messages, media, creative, etc. in service of membership marketing goals.

  • Helps develop and then leads ambassador / street team programs designed to increase USA Cycling visibility at the grassroots level and pull more people into the sport at a local level.

  • Develops, manages and monitors performance of automated email communications (e.g. welcome series, renewal series)

  • Partners with Marketing team to curate content for monthly enthusiast race and ride newsletters, as well as more frequent member content on social and web.

  • Interacts with counterparts at USA Cycling, especially in Events, Memberships, and National Events to ensure cohesive messages and outreach to the membership

  • Partners with counterparts in membership operations and experience team to ensure a seamless member experience and jointly decide on improvements.

  • Experience with marketing analysis methodologies, development of dashboards and reports.

  • Utilize a data-driven approach to develop recommendations and drive alignment on business decisions.

  • Provide indirect supervision to outside partners and vendors; indirectly tasks a matrixed team of internal staff.

  • Excellent verbal presentation and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to working collaboratively across multiple staff levels

  • Agency management / partnership

  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Products

  • Ability to travel (Weekend work required)

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field required

  • 3+ years of experience in marketing
