Chief Operating Officer/ Chief Financial Officer - USA Taekwondo (Colorado Springs, CO)
Directs, administers, and coordinates the internal operational and financial activities of the organization in accordance with policies, goals, and objectives established by the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors. Leads and directs the following functions and/or business areas: operations, finance and accounting, compliance, human resources, information systems, new business coordination, and organization promotion and communication. With the CEO, drives development of the strategic plan; develops, maintains, and enforces organization policies and procedures that cover operations, personnel, financial performance, and growth of the functions and/or business areas mentioned above.
Working with the CEO and managing a staff of 10, develops the strategic plan, annual financial budget, and periodic financial reforecasts, to be presented and discussed with the Board. On a monthly basis, close the books and publish reported financial statements, with commentary on variances and changes. Directs and, as necessary, redirects operations to achieve budgeted results and other financial criteria.
Establishes and implements both financial and non-financial control procedures, promotes communication and adequate information flow, and solidifies management control and direction of the enterprise.
Develops and establishes operating policies consistent with the CEO’s broad policies and objectives and insures their adequate execution. Regularly and systematically evaluates the overall operations, and reports these results, along with any proposed mitigating actions, to the CEO and the Board.
Ensures all levels of compliance by the Organization, including tax, all governmental regulations and laws, and USOC regulations and requirements.
Develops and maintains a sound plan of organization. Establishes policies to ensure adequate management development and provide for capable management succession for those functions/business units falling under his/her responsibility.
Directs the development and establishment of adequate and equitable personnel policies throughout the organization, including compensation.

The COO/CFO must be committed to the core values of USA Taekwondo and be driven by the mission. He/she must have proven experience in scaling a multi-site organization and a demonstrated ability to both lead and build the capabilities of a driven, bright, diverse team.
The successful candidate will most likely have had management experience with a not-for-profit organization. As noted, this is an organization driven by the values of its people, so experience in managing a “values-driven” organization will be highly prized. Additional requirements are:
Results orientation and a bias for action: A proven track record of exceeding goals and hitting the bottom-line; the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment; a high level of business acumen including successful P&L management; the ability to balance the delivery of programs against the realities of a budget; and hands-on problem solving and project management. Proactive and able to shift directions as the situation warrants, with the ability to take uncomfortable and unpopular stances as appropriate.
Strategic vision and agility: The ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan.
Leadership and organization: The capacity to manage, develop, and lead people; a team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations; ability to connect staff both on an individual level and in large groups; a willingness to enforce accountability.
General management: A thorough understanding of finance, systems, and HR; broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, finance, information systems, and human resources.
Communication: Ability to effectively and proactively communicate in all directions – up (CEO, Board, USOC), down (subordinates), and laterally (peers, vendors, regulatory bodies).
Solid educational background—undergraduate degree in accounting/finance required; MBA highly desired.
