Event Management - Fall 2015 Internship - USA Taekwondo (Colorado Springs, Co)

USA Taekwondo (USAT) is a 501(c)3 non-profit and the National Governing Body (NGB) of Taekwondo for the United States Olympic Committee (USOC); as such, it is the official Member National Association of the World Taekwondo Federation in the USA. USAT has complete authority over all decisions regarding U.S. National Junior and Senior team selections for World Taekwondo Federation events, including the Summer Olympic Games Taekwondo competition. A primary function of the NGB is to host/conduct national and international events in its sport. USAT hosts a variety of events each year such as the U.S. Open Taekwondo Championships, USAT National Qualifiers, USAT National Championships and Junior and Senior Team Trials.
The primary focus of this internship will be to assist staff with all areas of preparation of the 2016 U.S. Open, as well as other events as assigned.

An intern with USA Taekwondo must be a responsible self-starter capable of handling multiple tasks at the same time yet taking each to completion.  The intern must have basic computer skills, strong interpersonal skills and be able to work well in a team environment.

This internship will feature numerous hands-on projects including background/planning information for each event as well as after-action analysis.  The greater the effort put into this internship, the greater and more valuable the experience will become.  This position will offer interns the opportunity to refine skills and talents necessary for future roles in sport and event management.

This is an unpaid position that will include credit hours as determined by the internship program guidelines of the appropriate college.

 
Qualifications

  • Students majoring in Sports Management, Marketing, Management or Communications programs are preferred but not required.
  • Strong initiative, positive attitude and the ability to work well with a variety of personalities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and creative ability.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects.
  • Adequate clerical skills to function efficiently in an office environment.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook) is helpful.
  • Strong desire to learn and gain experience by working on a variety of projects in a professional work environment.
  • Available to work a minimum of 40 hours per week during regular business hours (8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday) during the fall semester (between approximately September 8 and December 12) and be able to travel if necessary.

Primary Responsibilities & Projects

An intern may work on any or all of the following projects. The projects included below are representative, but not exhaustive, of the most important tasks. The staff and the intern will plan projects based on their timing and significance.

  • Assist Director of Events and other staff in all aspects of event management including operational planning, event communication, volunteer training & management, preparatory meetings, marketing, etc.
  • Become familiar with all procedures and communications concerning event management.
  • Become familiar with USA Taekwondo membership database and all communications concerning membership retention and growth.
  • Assist in identifying and communicating with taekwondo clubs/schools with the purpose of establishing relationships and promoting USAT events.
  • Assist USA Taekwondo members attain Global Licenses through the World Taekwondo Federation
  • Organize, recruit and manage volunteers for USAT events. Develop a volunteer database that can be used when USAT returns to a particular city.
  • Business market research and analysis of taekwondo schools/ clubs within and outside of USA Taekwondo.
  • Manage, process and organize proper event registration material and storage.
  • Provide post-event feedback and evaluations on USAT events.
  • Utilize data collected from participant surveys, after-action meetings, and the previous year’s final report in order to evaluate and implement recommendations.
  • Will be an ambassador of USA Taekwondo inside and outside the office.

MEASUREMENTS

  • Complete assigned tasks in a professional and timely manner.
  • Complete a written report of projects at the end of the internship that meets the approval of the Director and the appropriate Internship Coordinator at his/her college.

CREDIT HOURS

The USA Taekwondo event management internship will include credit hours as determined by the internship program guidelines of the appropriate college.

Sport Intern (High Performance) - Fall 2015 - USA Taekwondo (Colorado Springs, Co)

USA Taekwondo (USAT) is a 501(c)3 non-profit and the national governing body (NGB) of Taekwondo for the United States Olympic Committee (USOC); as such, it is the official Member National Association of the World Taekwondo Federation in the USA. USAT has complete authority over all decisions regarding U.S. national junior and senior team selections for World Taekwondo Federation events, including the Summer Olympic Games Taekwondo competition. A primary function of the NGB is to host/conduct national and international events in its sport. USAT hosts a variety of events each year such as the U.S. Open Taekwondo Championships, USAT National Qualifiers, USAT National Championships and Junior and Senior Team Trials.
The primary focus of this internship will be to assist staff with all areas of preparation for national teams competing in various international competitions, including Grand Prix competitions. The intern will assist with logistics, data collection, and program management regarding the top athletes in the United States. The successful candidate will also provide direct support to the High Performance team on implementing the high performance plan.

  • Will be an ambassador of USA Taekwondo inside and outside the office.

  • Complete a written report of projects at the end of the internship that meets the approval of the Director and the appropriate Internship Coordinator at his/her college.
